SPRING 2021 UPDATE
As the new year begins, we would like to provide an update on research and community partnerships at Lewis University. While this has been a challenging year that has required us to teach, learn and collaborate differently, our students and faculty have continued to apply their scholarship to important issues in our community.
A few examples of this culture of innovation are:
-
Dr. Daisy Sherry, assistant professor of College of Nursing and Health Sciences, along with project director and long-standing clinical partner, Dr. Susan Davis, executive director, at Bolingbrook Christian Health Center, are leading a $25,000 grant to support health services during the COVID-19 pandemic. The award is helping hundreds of uninsured people access healthcare.
-
A team of faculty in the College of Education and Social Services is collaborating with Joliet School District 86 on an effort to adopt trauma-sensitive practices in schools. This collaboration is supported by a grant from the Community Foundation of Will County.
-
Lewis’ Department of Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences (ECaMS) is expanding its internship and research partnership with G&W Electric to include a rotational internship that will expose Lewis engineering students to multiple departments and roles within the company.
-
Lewis University has been designated a regional collaborative partner in the Council of Independent Colleges’ Legacies of American Slavery project. Lewis faculty will explore how race, migration, and incarceration have shaped our region.
-
Area companies have made significant in-kind gifts to our programs, including investments from Nexstar Media and Quality Craft.
Entering our spring 2021 semester, we are hopeful that a return to a less virtual and more in-person campus life is within sight. If you have questions about collaborating with Lewis University, please contact Jennifer Doherty at (815) 836-5038 or dohertje@lewisu.edu.
